I have a special place in my heart for branding.

One explanation is that one of my favorite retainer clients is a Brand Strategist. She shares her significant genius with clients and students though one-on-one work and online courses. I support her content marketing for her brand. Through my work shaping, re-purposing, researching (and even creating) content for her, I’ve gained a deep appreciation for the crucial role that branding plays in business – especially online business.

When I’m working with a new Pinterest set-up client, my first goal is to gain an understanding of their values, ideal clients, and aesthetics. I want to know who they serve and how they want to show up in the world.

Although all of my clients are online coaches, course creators, or consultants, each one is unique. And each one has a different vibe in their messaging and visuals. I incorporate this into a few areas of my work for them:

  1. pin design
  2. board cover design
  3. keyword selection
  4. written keyword-rich descriptions for their profiles, boards, and each individual original content pin

Here are two pins I designed recently.

The first one is for a talented business consultant who helps entrepreneurs to be more intentional and build values-based businesses.  She values minimalism. She encourages thoughtful, conscious and sustainable growth. She’s all about doing less better. Her branding reflects that, and we wanted her pins to reflect that too. I think we nailed it!

The second pin is one I designed for a Registered Dietitian who is also a busy mom of three kids under 5. (Yup. Three under five. Whoa.) She provides one-on-one coaching and group programs to moms who want to eat better and have more energy for the things that bring them joy. She also helps them model a good relationship with food for their kids. Her brand is very vibrant, high-energy, and even has a hint of the joyful chaos that moms of young kids embrace in their lives.

Like their brands, these two pins couldn’t be more different. And I adore them both (the pins and the women)!

Do you like one more than the other? Do you think these pins will grab the attention of their respective ideal audiences? Share your thoughts!
