Quick Preface: I first wrote this blog post a couple of years back. It showcases an IG Story that I repurposed as a Pinterest Idea Pin – and it just keeps giving me PASSIVE results – month after month, year after year! The most updated stats appear toward the end of the blog, but review the whole thing if you want the full ‘story.’ 😉
=====
Want to hear something kind of amazing?
In early May, I repurposed an Instagram story on Pinterest.
On Instagram, it was seen by 58 people. (It was multi-panels, and the first one got the highest number of “seen by” – at 58.)
I downloaded each IG story panel as a video (to my phone), and then I uploaded them to Pinterest as an Idea pin.
I added some text overlay (and a few stickers, if I recall!).
And (this is KEY! —>) of course, I…
- added a quick, keyword-optimized pin title
- chose some tags real quick, and
- pasted and tweaked a keyword-optimized version of a caption I’d written in the past (with helpful related tips) – into the “notes” section.
And, that Pinterest pin has gotten about 19,000 impressions so far!
So, to reiterate:
😐 My IG Story was seen by 58 people before it disappeared after 24 hours.
🤩 My Pinterest pin has 19,000 impressions so far, and it gets more every day.
Check it out:
Now… I want to be super duper clear here… On Pinterest, Impressions just means the number of times my pin was on someone’s screen.*
(*which basically is the same thing with those Instagram story “seen by’s”… I don’t know about you, but I swipe through my stories without really noticing some of them… to get to the ones I actually want to watch.)
But my pin has also gotten 398 pin clicks so far, too. So… even just *that metric alone* is trumping the IG number.
And, my pin is still going strong… 🐰🥁 … so people will be able to find it in their searches and smartfeeds for months – maybe even years! (Dare I tempt the Pinterest gods! 🤣)
And… the people who saw it and clicked were probably better-qualified potential clients. Because they were likely *already searching* for what it was about… as they likely found it in search or their smart feeds – and many were NOT already my followers.
Last thing.. Don’t get me wrong… I like IG a lot. But when it comes to *easier* marketing and visibility strategies that allow me to SAIL more and ROW less… I choose Pinterest every day – and twice on Sunday.
Cool, right?
Update 1: December 2021
It’s been about seven months since I published the Idea pin that I analyzed in this post – so I wanted to duck in and update readers with some new stats.
(Remember, the pin at hand started as an Instagram story, and I repurposed it to Pinterest.)
-
-
- As of December 4, this Idea pin has now been seen (impressions) almost 23,000 times.
- It has received 490 pin clicks, generated 70 visits to my profile, and 20 new followers.
-
Again… not bad for a pin that I created ONCE – and still brings me visibility and clicks – with NO ADDITIONAL EFFORT ON MY PART.
Just for fun, I also looked at how this pin has performed in the last 30 days alone.
(The reason I was curious about the last 30 days? It comes back this again: I am so pleased that this pin keeps on performing – with literally no action from me. I’m off doing other things – working with clients, creating new content, napping, taking days off… and – unlike the original IG post that disappeared after 24 hours and 59 views – this pin is “the gift that keeps on giving.”)
So, in the last 30 days alone, this pin…
-
-
- has 848 impressions
- got 29 pin clicks
- prompted 3 profile visits
- generated a new follower
-
The first image below shows the lifetime stats (so far) for this energizer bunny of a Pinterest pin.
The second image shows the stats from the last 30 days only.
Main takeaway: With a little work up-front, you can repurpose your Instagram content to Pinterest – for more lasting reach. Don’t sleep on this strategy! It’s a marketing strategy that is so much more easeful and sustainable than social media.
Update 2: January 2023
More than a year later, I checked in with this pin and IT’S STILL GROWING!!!
-
-
- As of January 27, this Idea pin has now been seen (impressions) more than 26,000 times.
- It has received 565 pin clicks, generated 78 visits to my profile, and 23 new followers.
-
Its performance has plateaued a bit – but remember: I pinned this ONCE (repurposed an IG story I had already made) and it keeps getting views and clicks, etc – for months and years.
This is how Pinterest gives you passive visibility.
Main takeaway: With a little work up-front, you can repurpose your Instagram content to Pinterest – for more lasting reach. Don’t sleep on this strategy! It’s a marketing strategy that is so much more easeful and sustainable than social media.
